The horrors of procrastination and how to overcome them
We all suffer from procrastination. As the worst of procrastinators will tell you, it truly is a horror that can wreak absolute havoc on any entrepreneur and business.
If procrastination is something that affects you severely then I feel your pain. Unfortunately this blog post isn't a long one because I have other more important things to do.
So, I offer some short and simple advice to you.
Firstly, read the two blog posts below. These are, in my humble opinion, two of the best blog posts I have ever read.
http://waitbutwhy.com/2013/10/why-procrastinators-procrastinate.html
http://waitbutwhy.com/2013/11/how-to-beat-procrastination.html
The blog posts are great because Tim's take on procrastination is unlike any other that I have ever read. Instant gratification monkeys, the dark playground, the panic monster - are all great analogies that Tim uses to properly explain what's going on for procrastinators.
In my experience procrastination can only be solved in one way. By doing the thing that you are procrastinating about right now and not tomorrow. It's how drug addicts come off drugs, they don't say to themselves "I'll stop using tomorrow" they say "I'll stop using today" - that's the only way they can do it.
It's only by doing the thing that you know you can do, but don't want to do, that you'll ever come to realise that procrastination can be beaten.
The opening to this post is the quote 'tomorrow is the busiest day of the week'. It's quite a powerful quote that many might have heard or read, but many might not have properly understood or been able to do anything with. Hearing or reading a quote doesn't really do much good, particularly when that quote only describes the problem that you're experiencing.
So I created my own quote that, instead of just describing the problem actually comes up with a solution, and here it is
"I can't do that tomorrow I have too much on, so I need to do it today"
Now I'm off to do a job I really don't want to do but have to. You need to do exactly the same thing.
